XCMG has remolded the landscape of the world’s leading brands in loaders.

On Nov. 24th, 2020, the first day of Bauma China 2020, XCMG launched the XC9350 wheel loader to the world. XCMG has currently become the only manufacturer in China and the third in the world who have the ability to produce ultra-class loaders of more than 35 tonnes in capacity.

It was indeed quite hard for Bauma China 2020 to be held on time during raging of COVID-19 globally. Therefore the meaning of launching the 35-tonne loader was significant.

Starting from 1985, a dream of progress for 35 years

In 1980s, China’s market has just begun to transform from planned economy to market economy. It boosted the infrastructure construction which stimulates the need of construction machinery.

In 1982, with the basic experience of making parts and moulds, XCMG started prototyping of ZL40 loader. Thanks to the experience and techniques of making tractors, XCMG soon managed to work out a prototype and passed the province’s examination. Then the product quickly went into the market.

At that time China’s loader manufacturing technology was still mainly for small-tonnage loaders. All the industry in China had no idea about how to produce large-scale loaders, and the situation that China was only the processor in the industry chain and could only export low-price goods also set a huge limit on the competitiveness of Chinese brands.

China’s market couldn’t exist without large-scale loader products in the future. If a Chinese brand wants to have the initiative and wants the power to talk when competing with foreign brands in the world’s market, then it is a must for it to overcome the difficulties and manage the large-scale loader technologies well.

Be the leader of the world’s large-scale loader industry! A dream that took place in XCMG

At the beginning of 1985, XCMG began to find foreign manufacturer for technology exchange. In May, the State General Administration of Materials, Tianjin Machinery Research Institute and Xuzhou Loader Factory formed an investigation group of 5 people with Su Zhixing from Xuzhou Loader Factory as the leader and went to Japan for their study.

They formed a technical cooperation program with Kawasaki Heavy Industries during this trip and decided to introduce KLD85Z, a globally technologically-advanced loader into China.

XCMG KLD85Z loader was launched and became the largest loader which is an substitution for imported products. It was sold to some big construction projects such as the Gezhou Dam, Daqing Oilfield, large mining fields and key ports.

XCMG was the only one to introduce large-scale loaders in China’s industry, and it started a new era of the development of China’s large-tonnage loaders.

With the introduction and innovation of the technology, XCMG has always been the leader in developing large loaders among China’s loader industry.

Without any hitchhike or shortcut, XCMG could only wade across the river by feeling for the stone. Nobody would believe that it is a easy task - being a leader is absolutely not that simple.

30 years passed, XCMG had achieved fantastic goals by aiming at the paramount of the world’s loader industry while taking the responsibility as a pillar of a Great Power.

A dream lasting for 35 years, XCMG is now still pursuing it......

Unstoppably advancing, XCMG goes forward with its dream

The way to the peak is destined to be a way full of obstacles, which we would meet situations like “short of oxygen” and “lack of equipment”.

In 2009, XCMG took an important step in its loader developing strategy, which was called the strategy of “High Reliability”, “High Technology”, “High Value” and “Large Scale”. It aimed at the 12-tonne class loader, determined to break the monopoly of foreign brands in large-scale loaders.

However, there was no precedent in manufacturing large scale loaders above 10 tons, and there were no structural components. XCMG made a decision: make by its own hands! So in 2010, when XCMG successfully launched the LW1200K loader, the price of other brands in its class all went down in China’s market.

From 12-tonne to 14-tonne, and now to the 35-tonne, XCMG has managed to produce all structural components of large-scale loaders, and the domestic-produced parts on XC9350 has reached above 80%. XCMG is always putting effort in breaking-through key technologies in large-scale loaders in China. The dream finally came true - It meant that XCMG has climbed up another stair towards the peak.

Actually, surviving in an industry with unique advantages and characteristics doesn’t mean to choose the hardest way and to be the ultimate champion.

Because customization definitely doesn’t only mean being the top and meeting its requirements, but also meeting the need of the mass middle market with the largest volumes. An enterprise could thrive among the competition if it has its characteristics or even enough professional in one aspect.

But XCMG would never be satisfied with only surviving in just one area - it would compete with its peers at the center of the stage in the world, representing the highest level of China’s manufacturing industry and the best quality.

As the core part of XCMG’s business, XCMG loaders had successfully earned its place in the leading team of world’s ultra-class loaders. Looking back to the history of China’s loader manufacturing, there were lots of brands which has changed hands or even collapsed. Was it the power of time that fabricated today’s XCMG, or was it the aspiration of reaching the peak that supported this new leader? Maybe this question is not that simple to answer.

Unceasingly overcoming the difficulties, XCMG’s progress is not only an important reflection of the rise of China’s national brands, but also the backbone that supports China’s manufacturing industry.
