Highway 3 was commenced when China and Cambodia were celebrating the 60th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. Cambodia PM Hun Sen and H.E. Ambassador Xiong Bo of China attended the ceremony. National flags of the two countries were raised and XCMG road machinery stood on the site. Nearly 1,000 people were present to witness the historical moment.
Cambodia PM Hun Sen
PM Hun Sen, in his speech, thanks China for the constant support and help with infrastructure building in Cambodia, saying the Highway 3 renovation & extension project starts with Phnom Penh, ran through Ksach Province, Kampong Speu Province and Takeo Province till it reached Kampot Province. The project is built to meet local demands for transport. Kampot, as a coastal province, connects inland of Cambodia with overseas countries, and functions as an important economic passage. Ambassador Xiong Bo said this years marks the 60th anniversary of Sino-Cambodia diplomatic relations. China’s government always cherishes traditional friendship between the two countries, and strongly supports Cambodia to take the development path suitable for its own realities, so as to bring more welfare to its people and promote Sino-Cambodia friendship to a higher level.

On the construction site, Hun Sen and Xiong Bo ignited the XCMG road machinery to kick off the project. In the trial driving, PM Hun Sen gave high praise to XCMG road machinery.

According to the project constructor China Road & Bridge Corporation, Highway 3 is an integral part of trunk highway network in Cambodia. Its renovation and extension project stretches 135km in length. The 7m wide highways will be partly extended to 24.5m or 12m wide. The designed speed is 80km/hour. With 215 million USD investment, the project will be completed in 48 months. This project will greatly improve Phnom Penh-Kampot-Sihanohkville Port transport, thus playing a great role in improving and optimizing highway network in southwestern Cambodia.
