XCMG-assisted International Standard Officially Published
Release Date: March 01, 2015
Recently, the international standard General Requirements of Digital Mock-up for Mechanical Products (ISO 17599:2015), the preparation of which was participated by XCMG, was released officially. This is the first time that XCMG participated in the drafting of an (information technology) international standard, which is not only an epitome of the successful standardization work carried out by XCMG in recent years but also a milestone in building a collaborative R&D information platform owing to our thorough benchmarking to cutting-edge international standards.

At the end of 2011, XCMG was invited to send experts to participate in the preparation of the international standard General Requirements of Digital Mock-up for Mechanical Products, undertaking the drafting of critical chapters of the standard. This is the first time for XCMG to substantially participate in the preparation of international standard. Although sufficient technical preparation was made and documents such as ISO Guidelines were studied, various unexpected difficulties were still encountered.

In May, 2012, the substantial drafting of the standard was just started and the first working group meeting was held in America. Depending on excellent professional strength, experts from XCMG presided over the meeting on behalf the person in charge of the standard preparation. They coped with questions raised by experts from various countries calmly and promoted the formation of the working group draft.

In 2013, the preparation of the standard entered the critical phase of the committee-level draft and then Japanese experts raised tough technical questions. If these questions could not be solved successfully, the contents of the standard would be subverted from concepts and systems and all previous efforts would be wasted. Experts from XCMG, together with other Chinese experts, consulted a number of international literature materials, obtained lots of evidences which could support their arguments, and finally solved all questions raised by Japanese experts and gained the recognition of other experts. Bruce Harding, Chairman of ISO/TC10, said: “Chinese national standards were always focusing on traditional and basic fields in the past; but this time it is refreshing. Young people of China have grasped the most advanced technologies and put them into application.” The standard describes the whole lifecycle digital mock-up for mechanical products from perspectives of construction, application, review, and management. It can be regarded as a programmatic document in the field of development information technology.

The breakthrough made by XCMG in the cutting-edge field of digital research and development (development information technology) is benefited from the input of the Company on the development of R&D information platform in recent years, the unremitting efforts of the whole project team, and the high attention paid to the R&D information platform as well as the standardization work. During the development of this platform, our Company highlighted not only the global outlook of a collaborative international system but also world-leading technologies. In the project process, cutting-edge international standards were set as the benchmark and the critical business and technical problems of the whole R&D process were studied systematically, which made experts from XCMG confident and speak on good grounds during the preparation of the international standard.

If this international standard can be regarded as a “fruit” born on the “soil” of collaborative R&D information platform development, we can find that similar “fruits” will be born in the near future. As the implementation of the Project is deepened, the research fields have been extended from product data management, 3D digitalization process and 3D publications to new fields such as whole lifecycle digital mock-up, digital factory and service assurance. On the basis of these researches, the preparation of international standard Size Marking of Metallic Members (ISO129-5) presided over by XCMG has already entered the committee-level draft phase; the industrial standard Representation of Machining Process Parameters has already been submitted for approval and will be released soon; two national standards, Management of 3D Patterns for Mechanical Products – Part 8: Requirements for Model and Data Quality Inspection and Technical Regulations for 3D Patterns of Mechanical Products – Part 10: Representation of Process Symbols, have already been reviewed and will be submitted for approval; proposals of 8 national standards, Digital Factory – General Requirements for Modeling and Simulating, General Requirements for the Process Design of 3D Model-based Mechanical Products, General Requirements for Electronic Publications of 3D Model-based Mechanical Products, Technical Product Documents – Product Data Management – Data Release, etc., have already been submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Standardization Administration. The development of collaborative R&D information platform is promoted steadily, which will add new weight for the persistence of XCMG in the new normal of the industry. Achievements of various standards will add splendor to the transformation and upgrading of XCMG and establish new benchmark for the industry.
